AXIS Steam biological indicators are developed to control the steam sterilization process. They contain Geobacillus stearothermophilus bacterial spores on filter paper inside a plastic tube. The liquid in the sealed glass ampule changes color if the spores germinate. The indicators are placed in the autoclave with the materials to be sterilized.
